Description

The Black Hawk is the workhorse of the US Army. First introduced in 1979, it replaced the Vietnam-era Huey and has since become one of the most widely used military helicopters in the world. It can carry 11 fully equipped soldiers, sling-load a 105mm howitzer beneath it, or be converted into a medevac aircraft within minutes.

The Black Hawk became known worldwide after the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu — later depicted in the film Black Hawk Down — where two were shot down over the city. The helicopter has since been upgraded many times and serves with the armies of over 30 countries. Over 4,000 have been built, and it remains in active US military service today.
