It began as one man's garage project. It ended up behind glass in a WW2 museum, pulling bigger crowds than the real tank standing beside it.
The builder is James Manning, 58, a former senior designer at The LEGO Group. He spent 18 years there before walking away over one thing: LEGO will not touch military history. So he designed the M4A3 Sherman himself and partnered with a brand called BrickWar to build it properly.
The one thing that stops people buying a set that is not LEGO is the fear the quality is junk. Manning's answer is simple. The bricks are molded from the same grade of ABS that LEGO uses, on Swiss machines held to a tolerance of 0.009mm. After 18 years designing LEGO sets, he says he cannot tell them apart.
And it is completely legal. The patent on the basic brick expired decades ago, which is why compatible systems exist at all. The only thing separating a good one from junk is the plastic and the mold, and his are built to LEGO's standard.
You are not paying the LEGO tax. No brand premium, no licensing, no fortune for the name on the box. Same snap, same plastic, a fraction of the price.
"Same snap. Same plastic. Half the price. You are just not paying the LEGO tax."
And the proof is not a product photo. It is sitting in a glass case. The museum's curator, thirty years among real armor, chose it for permanent display. More than 20,000 builders have bought from BrickWar, rated 4.5 on Trustpilot. Visitors keep asking the same two questions: is this LEGO, and where can I buy it?
Here is where to get the exact set in that case, while the launch offer lasts.
